The Indie Web

There is a movement to celebrate (and bring back) what some call "the glory days of the internet", referring to how it was back in the late 1990's and early 2000's. These days, the internet is all about profit, driven by the escalating and unending greed of billionaires. Everyone was herded like cattle onto corporate platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, etc., versus how it used to be, when the web was a quirky, ugly, beautiful place, filled with millions of people expressing themselves creatively on thier own websites... not for profit, but for FUN. There was a strong sense of community back then, with people exchanging links to each other's pages. True connections were made online through forums and other interactions, and strangers from all over the world became friends through shared interests. You could show only those parts of yourself you wanted to (your art, or your interest in quilts/cats/whatever), through positive anonymity.

It was a much different internet back then. A healthier internet. A happy place.

So to answer the question of "Why isn't this site mobile friendly?" - in the late 90's people didn't have internet access on a pocket phone. They had to make time to sit down at a computer - an act of intention, rather than today's habit of quickly glancing at a website in a free moment on their phone while waiting for something else in the real world to happen.

I encourage you to grab your favorite beverage, sit down at your desktop or open your laptop, and enjoy exploring the web the way we used to, one person's awesome scratch-built website at a time. You can find some like-minded places to explore on my Links page, as I bid you Bon Voyage.
